Celebrating Women’s History Month and Women in IT Zscaler EVP of Customer Experience and Transformation Kavitha Mariappan has been busy sponsoring efforts to recognize and celebrate women in IT. A wildly successful Women in IT & Security CXO Summit featured inspiring leadership lessons from the likes of Siemens AG CIO Hanna Hennig. CXO Executive Connect Live in Overdrive Our CXO Executive Connect Live virtual events set a new record for active viewership with episode #4 reaching nearly 300 people. This livestream featured Kavitha Mariappan hosting a zero trust discussion with Alex Philips, CIO of NOV, and Craig Clay, Former Lead Connectivity Architect at Shell. The video, The Three I’s of Successful Zero Trust Projects is viewable on-demand.
Tracking Global Attacks and International Sabotage The ThreatLabz team has been busy assisting companies with security issues related to the Ivanti VPN vulnerabilities. They recently released information from the Zscaler Zero Trust Exchange showing where attackers are attempting to exploit these vulnerabilities worldwide. ThreatLabz also detected a new advanced campaign they’ve named SPIKEDWINE that is aiming to erode trust between India and European Governments.
As always, Zscaler leadership remains busy creating thought-provoking podcasts, informative news articles, and vital industry reports to keep our customers informed and protected. If you have any questions, concerns, or ideas you’d like to discuss with us we’re always happy to hear from you.

From the Office of the CISO:
Why AI can (and should) lead to a renaissance in the humanities
Sam Curry, CISO in Residence, Zscaler
From the Enlightenment to the Industrial Revolution right up to present day, leading science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) thinkers have served humans incredibly well. Figures like Alexander Cummings, Marie Curie, Jonas Salk, Norman Borlaug and countless others have saved vast numbers of our species from untold suffering through rigorous interrogation of the natural world.
While we as a society become increasingly technical, the humanities have, by many measures, suffered a decline. The number of degrees granted and programs offered at U.S. universities have fallen in recent years, with some colleges cutting entire departments. Even such cultural and literary bastions as The New Yorker have lamented “the end of the English major.”
Given these trends, one could be forgiven for worrying that the rise of AI could spell the death knell for the liberal arts. However, I would argue that the rise of AI makes the humanities more important than ever.
What the humanities can add to our AI discussions.

Recent cyberattacks on the water industry raise the prospect of more frequent, widespread, damaging incidents that threaten disruption to lives and livelihoods. I know the chaos that stems from disruption to the water supply having led the recovery of systems knocked offline by floods in Iowa.

Let's face it. The days of the CISO as the lone wolf, guarding the castle walls with a stack of firewalls and a suspicious glare, are over. Today's cybersecurity landscape demands a different kind of hero: a business-savvy leader who understands the intricate dance of protecting the organization while enabling and supporting its growth.

Could you accurately and succinctly describe zero trust to your leadership team or board? During my five years as a VP analyst at Gartner, I witnessed executives struggle to convey the concept in business language, and it’s not entirely their fault; “Zero trust” rolls out the red carpet for misinterpretation and misrepresentation.
