“ Modernization Requires Rethinking. Implementing ZT requires rethinking how we utilize existing infrastructure to implement security by design in a simpler and more efficient way,” all while improving warfighter performance, increasing interoperability, and enabling unimpeded operations and resiliency.”–DoD Zero Trust Strategy
The DoD’s zero trust strategy outlines an aggressive approach to achieving a zero trust architecture (ZTA) that underpins its implementation by breaking the seven pillars of zero trust into 152 assessment and validation activities.
These activities outline measurements of success for each MILDEP to examine and establish a benchmark on how it will achieve its desired effects, which is to prevent a threat actor from stealing, disrupting, or destroying the integrity of its data and the American way of life.
